About Feng Shui
WHAT IS FENG SHUI
Feng Shui, also known as the Chinese Art of Placement, is not superstition, religion or magic, but rather a fine balance of science and art with a goal of arranging buildings, rooms and furniture to enhance the natural flow of energy in the environment. Feng Shui focuses on the movement of energy known as Chi, directing it for positive effect.
CHI
Westerners are often familiar with the concept of Chi as the invisible energy that runs through our bodies and is associated with acupuncture meridians and chakras.
Chi energy also runs through our physical spaces, having a profound effect on our lives.
FENG SHUI HISTORY
Feng Shui, a Chinese term meaning “wind and water”, refers to the visible and invisible phenomena that shape and influence our lives. The Chinese believe that when forces of wind and water are advantageously aligned, wealth and prosperity will follow.
Early Form School practitioners examined physical land formations, waterways and nature to locate the ideal environment for human comfort and success. Complex directional calculations combined with the application of the Chinese horoscope helped determine the design and layout for buildings.
A Fine Balance employs the Western School of Feng Shui ™ which has adapted the practice of Feng Shui to recognize the unique challenges in a Western home or business. It incorporates traditional Chinese knowledge with contemporary science and knowledge such as psychology, physiology, ecology, architecture, interior design and colour theory. Special emphasis is placed on Yin and Yang theory and the Five Elements as identified in Feng Shui, namely Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.
GOALS OF FENG SHUI
- Identify and cure areas of blocked or stagnant Chi, allowing the energy to flow freely
- Divert or minimize negative energy called Shar Chi (poison arrows) which can cause bad luck, discomfort and illness
- Encourage the flow of positive energy to spaces corresponding to the areas of life where one wishes to see improvements
- Establish a fine balance between Yin and Yang and the five elements.
BAGUA MAPPING SYSTEM The Bagua is a critical tool in the practice of Feng Shui. It is used to identify zones, or guas, in a home or business that would correspond to specific life areas such as Prosperity or Relationships. Think of the Bagua as a transparent map that is overlaid on the plan of a home or business. The Bagua can be applied to an entire property, the floor plans of a whole house, a single room or even the surface of a desk. Application of the Bagua can identify problematic “missing guas” as well as bonus areas. It is common to find homes where the garage lies within the Bagua and the flow of energy there can be as important as the energy in the living room. Particular attention can be paid to any gua where the client is experiencing difficulties in their life or would like to see changes. |
